NEW DELHI: The National Democratic Alliance will submit a memorandum to President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam on Monday, highlighting the Government's failure in preventing the Mumbai serial blasts, the unchecked price rise and the controversy over the office-of-profit Bill. Announcing this after a 90-minute meeting of all NDA partners, presided over by the former Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Bharatiya Janata Party leader V.K. Malhotra said the alliance leaders would march to Rashtrapati Bhavan and submit the memorandum on Monday, the opening day of the monsoon session of Parliament. The NDA would bring an adjournment motion in the Lok Sabha on the Government's "failure" to prevent the July 11 Mumbai serial blasts despite being alerted by intelligence agencies about the possibility of such a terror attack. "We will not allow any other discussion in the Lok Sabha on Monday till our adjournment motion against the Government is admitted and debated," Mr. Malhotra said. On the office-of-profit Bill, he said the NDA was opposed to it in the present form. "Let the Government take heed to the suggestions given by the President."
Strategy
Outlining the NDA strategy in Parliament, he said the alliance would raise issues such as the unprecedented price rise, increasing unemployment, the Navy War Room Leak case, infiltration of the Air Force by Lashkar elements, farmers' suicide, the Volcker report on oil scam and status of Ottavio Quattrocchi in the Bofors pay-offs case. "The Indo-U.S. nuclear deal and the UPA Government giving in to American pressure will also be raised by us. Another issue that will be taken up relates to the walkout by our Commerce Minister during WTO talks. We will also put the Government on mat on the issue of setting up Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in various States, which are being given to big industrial houses. Farmers have lost their fertile land to these SEZs, as the State Governments have acquired their land at cheap rates and virtually gifted it to industrialists." On whether the NDA would bring a no-confidence motion against the Manmohan Singh Government, Mr. Malhotra said the Opposition always had the option of moving the motion against the Government.
