BELGAUM: A high-level delegation of the Maharashtra Ekikaran Samithi, parliament members and leaders of Opposition parties in Maharashtra will be meeting the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in New Delhi on July 25. The MES Madhyavarti (Apex body) Samithi president Vasantrao Patil, former MLA of Khanapur in Belgaum taluk, along with the other senior leaders from Maharashtra including N.D. Patil will lead the delegation. The representative of Maharashtra in the Supreme Court Harish Talve, advisor to a Mumbai-based committee, Vasant Bhandare and two members from the Advisory Committee (Law) of MES will be part of the delegation, working president of MES, Belgaum, Deepak Dalvi told The Hindu on Saturday. The sources in MES said the delegation was likely to register its protest against Karnataka's alleged delaying tactics in filing a reply in the Supreme Court following the suit filed by Maharashtra seeking transfer of Belgaum and other areas on the Karnataka border with Maharashtra. The delegation is expected to draw the attention of the Prime Minister on alleged denial of certain rights to the Marathi-speaking community in border areas .
