KOZHIKODE: Minister for Education M.A. Baby said here on Sunday that religious heads and spiritual leaders should make efforts to correct the ways of those making money out of professional education institutions. He told presspersons on Sunday that he was not of the view that all those running self-financing professional colleges in the State were out to make money. There were many among them who were service-minded too. The religious leaders should make efforts to make those out to make money understand the social service aspect of education. The Minister hoped the court would provide a solution to the problem of admissions to the self-financing colleges. The Government was praying that the poor students also got admissions to professional colleges. On the contention of managements of self-financing colleges that the Government had not formally asked them to file the details of admissions claimed to have been made by them, the Minister said the managements had been contacted through newspaper and other media and fax messages by the Government. Asked if there would be any discussions with the managements on the issue before July 27 when the Kerala High Court heard the case, Mr. Baby said there might be talks with them. Earlier, at a function to distributing awards to physically challenged students who had excelled in the SSLC examinations, Mr. Baby said the Kerala Professional Colleges Act 2006 was aimed at protecting the rights of all sections of people. But some were bend on finding fault with this Act. This Act had considered the difficulties of physically challenged people also, and it would not harm any interest of the minority communities. Only the interests of those persons who wanted to make money would be harmed by the Act.
