Genpact wins
Genpact won the inaugural edition of the Corporate Cup Basketball Tournament by winning all their three round robin matches in the Hyderabad District Basketball Association conducted tournament here on Sunday. Virtusa secured the runner up berth by winning two matches and losing one while Fountain Head Media Ventures (FHMV) took the third sport and was followed by Ivy Comptech who lost all their three matches. Genpact aided by Dennis Sehgal, Amrith and Thereson proved far too superior to their opponents in all their matches. Dennis was awarded the Most Valuable Player trophy. For the runner up, it was a noteworthy performance from Shekar who was adjudged the Best Scorer of the Championship. FHMV took the third sport with John K. John, Vikram, Ramesh and Vicky playing well while Ashley performed well for Ivy Comptech, and was given the Best Defensive Player Award.
APFA panel
Andhra Pradesh Football Association (APFA) formed a three-member panel comprising former Olympian S.A. Salam, Arjuna Awardee Shabbir Ali and ex-international Mohd Habeeb to chalk out a long-term programme to promote sport in a big way in the State and in the twin cities in particular. It has also been asked to organise intensive coaching programmes in the State to involve all the affiliated clubs and institutional teams in this regard. APFA coaches panel Mohd Akbar and convenor Syed Latifuddin were also asked to coordinate. All the district bodies were advised to pick former national players from their respective areas and suggest their names to the APFA by July 29 when the first phase of the programme will be launched.
