Police intensify patrolling on highways; RTC suspends services

KURNOOL: A red alert was sounded in Kurnool district following the major encounter in the Nallamala forest on Sunday.

The police started monitoring the movement of vehicles on the 150-km long ghat road in the Nallamala forest, as the incident was likely to provoke the underground cadre into retaliation in a big way.

Senior police officers leading the operations in the Nallamala forest said that Sunday's encounter destroyed the myth that security forces could do nothing to underground naxals in the Nallamala forest, especially in the Palutla core forest. The CPI(Maoist) leadership always treated Palutla belt as its secretariat and a secure place.

CPI (Maoist) State secretary Madhav, who was killed in the encounter was said to be ailing with knee pain. Nallamala division secretary Sudarshan alias Satyam escaped, according to information.

Plea to leaders

KHAMMAM: The police sounded a high alert in the district in the wake of the Nallamala encounter. All the elected representatives have been asked to keep the police informed of their moments.

The police stations in the naxalite-infested areas were also put on alert. Patrolling was intensified on the State highways. The night bus services were suspended by the RTC to the interior villages in Bhadrachalam, Palvancha and Kothagudem divisions. All precautions were being taken in respect of services operated on the highways.
