IT officials transferred on bribe charge

New Delhi: Five top officials of the investigative wing of the Income Tax Department, including its Director-General, have been transferred.

This follows their reported role in exposing a bribery case in which liquor manufacturers of Uttar Pradesh allegedly paid over Rs. 300 crore to top politicians and bureaucrats.

DG (Investigation) S.S. Gandhi, credited with detecting several high-profile income tax evasion cases, including that of a company in which a top politician is one of the directors, has been transferred as DG (Systems). R.R. Singh has taken charge as the new DG (Investigation).

P.K. Kedia, a Director, has been shifted to the Appeals Section of the department. Additional Director P.S. Tomar has been posted to Meerut.

Assistant Director S.K. Gotru has been transferred to Madhya Pradesh.
