Staff Reporter

This also enabled police to check sand smuggling

CHENNAI: Following the decision to post security personnel round-the-clock in Thiruvallur, Thiruthani and Ponneri courts, the movement of anti-socials has been curtailed.

According to a police press note, security was stepped up after reported attempts to assault remand prisoners, who appeared in the courts. Key police check posts are now manned round-the-clock led by a Sub-Inspector of police.

This has also enabled the police to check sand smuggling, which was rampant in few pockets in the district.

The IGP North Zone, K. Radhakrishnan, has provided adequate personnelto all the check posts.

On July 17, when a gang attempted to kidnap K. Baskar, an onion merchant, in Sholavaram police station limits, police at Thamaraipakkam check post in Vengal police station limits arrested the gang comprising 11 persons, the note said.
