TAMBARAM : Classical music is firmly entrenched in the city suburbs with children showing keen interest and institutions striving hard to sustain their enthusiasm, N. Murali, Managing Director, The Hindu and president, Music Academy, said here on Sunday. Addressing the eleventh anniversary celebrations of the Tambaram Music Club at Sitadevi Garodia School in East Tambaram, he said the efforts of institutions should be appreciated. Compared to music institutions in the suburbs, where commuting and organising a music festival was not easy, those in the city were better off. At the same time, some city sabhas did not have an auditorium to conduct all their functions, he said. It was heartening to see many children participating in music contests, Mr. Murali said. "Carnatic music in this part of the city is firmly entrenched." He distributed prizes to winners of music contests conducted for children, along with R. Ramachandran of Hamsadvani. Musicians N. Ramani and P.S. Narayanaswamy and Garodia Schools secretary K. Narayan Rao spoke.
