Mayor institutes inquiry into missing paper

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Mayor Farhad Suri has instituted an inquiry into the disappearance of an important paper from a file related to re-election of the chairman and the deputy chairman of Education Committee in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. The matter involves misconduct on the part of a senior Congress Councillor and laxity by senior functionaries posted in the Municipal Secretary office.

Citing procedural lapses in the election held for the two posts held recently, in which Ajit Chaudhary and Anil Chaudhary of the Congress were elected as chairman and deputy chairman of the Education Committee, Lieutenant-Governor B. L. Joshi had ordered re-election. Subsequently, both the leaders had resigned from their posts.

Later, Mr. Suri initiated the election process, which was later postponed. In the meantime, Mr. Suri went on a foreign trip. On his return, he found the resignation letter of Mr. Anil Chaudhary missing from the file, which was seen by a senior Congress Councillor in his absence. Mr. Suri has also written to DPCC president about the entire episode.
