Three killed in road accidents

NEW DELHI: Three persons were killed in separate road accidents in South Delhi on Saturday.

Gopal (35) fell from a running private bus plying on route No. 427 from Mehrauli to Nizamuddin. He was rushed to All-India Institute of Medical Sciences where he was declared dead on arrival. A hunt has been launched for the bus driver.

In another case, 54-year-old Sarita was killed when a dumper the motorcycle on which she was travelling with her husband, Inder Singh, at Mehrauli on Saturday evening. The dumper driver fled from the scene leaving the vehicle behind.

A 21-year-old motorcyclist, later identified as Mohit Sethi, was run over by an unknown vehicle around Saturday midnight near Moolchand flyover. He was a resident of neighbouring Gurgaon.

Journalist dies

in accident

New Delhi: Senior journalist Satish Tripathi, working with Hindi daily Nav Bharat Times died in an accident on Saturday. He was 52.

Mr Tripathi was hit by Poorva Express at Chandra Nagar level crossing in Ghaziabad near here at about 4 p.m., family sources said.

He died on the spot. He is survived by wife, a son and a daughter.

He was vice-president of the Delhi Union of Journalists and an active member of Press Club of India, Delhi.

Woman charred

to death

NEW DELHI: A 25-year-old woman was charred to death at her Najafgarh residence in South-West Delhi on Sunday. The police suspect it to be a case of suicide.

The incident occurred around 3-45 p.m. when Parveen's clothe caught fire while she was in the kitchen. She was rushed to Rao Tularam Hospital where she was declared dead on arrival.

Two arrested on robbery charges

NEW DELHI: Two young men allegedly involved in robbery cases were arrested by the Special Staff of the East Delhi police on Saturday. The police claim to have recovered a stolen mobile phone from them.

The accused, Amit Suri (25) and Amit Kumar (22), were arrested at Mandawali by a team led by Inspector Rakesh Dixit. During interrogation, the two allegedly confessed to their involvement in a robbery at Mandawali. Further probe into their other suspect involvements are on.

National Convention of Goodwill Society

NEW DELHI: The 17th National Convention of the International Goodwill Society (IGS) of India was organised in the Capital on Sunday. The programme was inaugurated by the Centre for Scientific and Industrial Research Dr. R. A. Mashelkar in the presence of Union Minister of State for Industrial Policy and Promotion Ashwani Kumar and other dignitaries. The theme of convention is "Vision India". IGS is celebrating its silver jubilee this year.

Security proposal for DJB installations

NEW DELHI: The CISF has prepared a proposal for providing multi-tier security to vital water installations under Delhi Jal Board (DJB) in view of a threat perception of terror attacks and biological contamination.

The paramilitary force has drawn up a detailed proposal for securing the Hyderpur, Bhagirathi and Wazirpur water treatment plants here after the DJB approached it following an alert from Delhi Police.
