BANGALORE: Five persons of a family were killed when the vehicle in which they were travelling hit a barricade and a road median in Byrapatna in Channapatna Rural police station limits on Sunday. According to the police, seven members of the family from Gopahalli village near Bidadi hired the van to go to Dandamma Temple in Mudugere to perform rituals. After finishing the rituals there around noon, they were returning to their village when the accident occurred.
Vehicle hits barricade
Near Byrapatna, the driver of the vehicle lost control and hit the barricade placed by the police as a step against speedy driving. The vehicle then hit the road median and fell by the side of the road. Five-year-old Rohit was killed on the spot.
Rushed to hospital
Some villagers rushed to the rescue of the victims and made arrangements to take them to Channapatna Government Hospital. Ratnamma (55); her sister's son Shekar (25); and Shekar's niece Shilpa (18) died on way to the hospital. Ratnamma's niece Suchitra (19) died while she was being taken from the Channapatna hospital to a Bangalore hospital, the police said.
Two injured
Two persons were injured in the accident. They were admitted to a hospital in Channapatna.
