PANAJI: A four-day 40th Anniversary International Conference of LAWASIA, (the Law Association for Asia and the Pacific) on trade, technology, communications and energy, will be held in south Goa from September 29. Among issues of concern to the countries in the region, the conference, with the expected participation of legal experts from 22 countries, will debate the "Impact of global terrorism on cross-border trade". Chairman of the organising committee and president of the Bar Association of India (BAI), Lalit Bhasin, said here on Saturday that the conference would deliberate on wider issues of economies of the countries in the region in the context of globalisation. The conference, to be hosted by the BAI, the Society of Indian Law Firms (SILFs) and LAWASIA India Chapter, will be inaugurated by Union Law Minister H.R. Bharadwaj. The president of LAWASIA, Jung Hoon Lee, of Korea as well as the incoming president, Mah Weng Kwai, from Malyasia will be present at the conference. One of the highlights of the conference is the G.L. Sanghi memorial lecture to be delivered by Kishor Govind, Chief Justice of the Fiji High Court on "Righting the human wrongs." Fali S. Nariman would chair the event while G.L. Sanghi's son, Justice Vipin Sanghi of the Delhi High Court, will give a response session on "Free trade areas." Topics such as "Technology and communication outsouring and off-shoring - trends and issues," "Global legal implications of e-commerce," "Globalisation of trade and Services," will find speakers from countries such as the U.S., Australia, and Malaysia, addressing issues of concern to globalising economies. Mr. Bhasin also mentioned that in recent years China has been taking a keen interest in law conferences and legal exchange and interaction programmes with India. Mr. Bhasin said it has helped and encouraged active interaction in this region and always served as a platform for good and fruitful discussion.
