dated July 25, 1956: Baroda Maharaja's feat

The 26-year-old Maharaja of Baroda, Fatehsingh Rao Gaekwad, drove into London on July 22 at the end of a 10,000 mile journey overland from Bombay across 12 countries. The Maharaja and the party of four accompanying him travelled in a station wagon, almost entirely made in India. They have another 15,000 miles to got in the same vehicle before they return to Bombay by September end. Leaving Bombay on May 9, they travelled across Pakistan, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Turkey, Greece, Yugoslavia, Italy, Switzerland and France to London.
