CHENNAI:
Andhra Pradesh has assured Tamil Nadu that it will examine the request for early release of Krishna water to Chennai.
This was indicated by officials of the neighbouring State at a meeting of the high-level liaison committee held here on Monday.
While Tamil Nadu wanted Andhra Pradesh to begin the release at the earliest, the latter responded that the work on lining of the Kandaleru-Poondi canal was in progress, official sources say.
Of the canal's total length of 152 km, the work has been completed for 105 km. Andhra Pradesh has planned to complete the work in a year.
Regulations
The need for framing rules and regulations for operation of various reservoirs under the Telugu Ganga Project was raised at the meeting.
The rules assume importance in view of the project having the components of drinking water and irrigation.
The Chief Secretaries of the two States and senior officials attended the meeting.
