Air service

Though Salem is one of the most important cities, it is not connected to air network and this retards the development of the city. Many passengers and industrialists from Salem who can afford air travel are forced to depend on trains owing to non-availability of airlines in the city.

The government should revive the airport for local network between Salem-Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai, Bangalore and Tirupathi.

Name transfers

There are thousands of Electricity Board connections in the names of deceased throughout the state. The connections are live though the customers are dead and gone since the bills are paid by their relatives.

Transfer of names are not carried on by the relatives seriously as there could be a legal dispute over partition. Moreover, Electricity Board authorities delay transfer of names for months. The Board will do well to update the service list only in the name of survivors.

Broad gauge

There is no broad gauge connection between Coimbatore and Madurai which are the second and third largest cities in Tamilnadu. It also helps pilgrims from north Kerala to go to Palani and Rameswaram.
