"Allocate all PDS exercises to Co-operative Department"

TIRUNELVELI : The Tamil Nadu Co-operative Department Officials' Union has appealed to the State Government to allocate all public distribution system-related exercises to the Co-operative Department "to avoid practical difficulties."

The union's central executive committee meeting held here on Saturday said the department was running 22,000 of the 27,000 ration shops across the State and hence, allocation, distribution and inspection of essential commodities could be handed over to the department, if the Tamil Nadu Government wanted to avoid the practical difficulties involved in the public distribution system.

Another resolution said the Primary Agriculture Co-operative Banks should be allowed to accept deposits so that the PACBs would attain financial stability and disbursal of loans to farmers would be hastened.

Besides filling existing vacancies of deputy registrars, co-operative sub-registrars, senior inspectors, junior inspectors and junior assistants through promotions, the posts of sub-registrars and field inspectors should be made permanent and transferable. The State president, K.V. Chakaravarthi, presided over the meeting.
