BANGALORE: It is a season that will culminate with the World Cup in the West Indies in the summer of 2007. And understandably as the Indian team's pre-season conditioning camp commences at the National Cricket Academy premises here this week, hopes and dreams will run high. The camp's immediate focus though will be on the tri-series commencing in Sri Lanka on August 14. South Africa is the third team.
Pathan, Raina practice
The players are scheduled to assemble here on Tuesday and training is expected to pick up pace on Wednesday. Irfan Pathan and Suresh Raina, who arrived during the weekend, practiced at the KSCA `B' Ground nets while bio-mechanist Ian Fraser kept a close watch here on Monday. The fitness camp will conclude on August 1 and will mainly feature the Indian team selected to tour Sri Lanka. Skipper Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar who is on a comeback trail after a shoulder surgery kept him on the sidelines for four months will obviously don the mantle of elder statesmen. Meanwhile, V.V.S. Laxman, Wasim Jaffer, Dinesh Karthik, Robin Uthappa, V.R.V. Singh, L. Balaji and Murali Kartik will also attend the camp and have their fitness assessed. At the helm will be trainer Gregory King, physio John Gloster and Fraser while coach Greg Chappell who is away in the US is expected to reach the city in time for the skills camp scheduled from August 6 to 9.
