Thaksin to contest poll

BANGKOK: Thailand's Government spokesman Surapong Suebwonglee said on Monday that the Thai Rak Thai Party leader Thaksin Shinawatra will contest the October 15 election as the No. 1 party-list candidate. He said Mr. Thaksin would become the next Prime Minister if the people voted the Thai Rak Thai Party to power. King Bhumibol Adulyadej endorsed a decree on Thursday, scheduling the general elections for October 15 since the Constitution Court nullified the April 2 elections two months ago.
