CHENNAI: A day after journalists reporting on Assembly proceedings requested Speaker R. Avudaiappan and Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi to restore the seats allocated to them earlier, it was restored to them. It was because seating for the MLAs was cramped that the Assembly department had decided to re-modify the hall. Additional space was created for MLAs by taking over a large part of the space reserved for journalists. The journalists were provided space on the first floor. Following the representation, Mr. Karunanidhi assured that arrangements would be made to the satisfaction of journalists. He discussed the issue with Mr. Avudaiappan, Ministers M.K. Stalin and Parithi Ilamvazhuthi the same day. According to DMK whip R. Chakrapani, work began the same evening and went on till past 3 p.m. on Sunday. The Chief Minister and the others, who had come to oversee the work on Sunday morning, stayed put till the work was over. "The Chief Minister left for lunch only after 3 p.m.," Mr. Chakrapani said. Reporters covering the Assembly met the Chief Minister and thanked him for restoring their seats.
