152 students become software engineers

At the Tamil Nadu State-level Placement Programme in Tiruchi

TIRUCHI
: The Tamil Nadu State-level Placement Programme of Anna University, conducted for the first time in Tiruchi, saw 152 students securing appointment as software engineers on Monday.
The placement programme, hitherto confined to Chennai, Madurai and Coimbatore, has been extended to Tiruchi and Salem with effect from this academic year.
Infosys Technologies Limited commenced the two-day selection process on Sunday at J.J. College of Engineering and Technology with a written test attended by 2,084 final year students from 29 engineering colleges in and around Tiruchi.
A total of 190 students attended the interview after getting through the written test. The successful candidates have been assured an annual salary of Rs. 2.75 lakh. Subject to completion of their courses in 2007, these candidates would undergo a short training at the company's training centre in Mysore, before being vested with projects, said P. Mannar Jawahar, Director, Centre for University-Industry Collaboration, Anna University.
