Staff Reporter

Madhav killed within 10 months after taking over reins

  • Karimnagar district group loses top brass in encounters
  • Death of 11 members in Manala encounter a huge setback

KARIMNAGAR: The naxalite movement has suffered a deathblow in the State in general and in Karimnagar district in particular with the encounter death of its State secretary Madhav and seven others in the Nallamalla forest in Prakasam district on Sunday.

Madhav, who became State Committee secretary in an unusual manner after the peace talks process, died within 10 months after `assuming charge.'

This is the second time that a Maoist State Committee secretary was killed in an encounter with the police. On December 2, 1999, the then CPI(ML) People's War State secretary Nalla Adi Reddy and two other State committee members — Seelam Naresh and Yerramreddy Santosh Reddy — were killed in an encounter in the Koyyur forest.

After the peace talks process, the Maoists had suffered a severe jolt in the north Telangana region with the death of its 11 top cadres in an encounter in the Manala forest in Nizamabad district. The Maoists leader and North Telangana Special Zone Committee members, including Padmakka and Vinod alias Ramireddy, were killed in Nerella and Maddimalla encounters in Karimnagar district in 2000 and 2002 respectively.

The Karimnagar district Maoist group, which had several top naxalites in its ranks in the last three decades, had been at the receiving end in several encounters.

Central Committee member Muppala Laxman hails from Bheerpur of Sarangapur mandal, Mallojula Koteshwara Rao alias Prahlad and his brother Mallojula Venugopal Rao hail from Peddapalli, Sande Rajamouli alias Prasad hails from Gudem of Odela mandal, Malla Rajireddy alias Sathanna from Sasthrulapalli.

North Telangana Special Zone Committee (SZC) member Pulluri Prasad Rao alias Chandranna hails from Vadkapur of Julapalli mandal and Oggu Sathavaji alias Sudhakar of Sarangapur mandal, Danda Karanya SZC member Kadari Satyanarayana Reddy alias Sadu of Gopalraopalli village of Sircilla mandal, State Committee members — G. Lingamurthy alias Shankar of Ambala village in Husnabad, Sadanala Ramakrishna of Anthakkapeta village in Husnabad mandal and G. Sammi Reddy alias Gopanna of Husnabad.
