KOZHIKODE: Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan has said the Government has no immediate plans to entrust recruitment of teachers in aided education institutions to the Public Service Commission. The Chief Minister told mediapersons on Monday that the LDF had not discussed it so far. While pointing out that it was not a new suggestion, Mr. Achuthanandan added that there was no need to discuss it right now. In reply to questions, the Chief Minister confirmed talks would be held in Thiruvananthapuram on August 3 and 4 with representatives of the Dubai Internet City (DIC) to restart negotiations for the Smart City project in Kochi. The Government was ready to support IT companies to set up units in the State. He also said the Government had also opened discussions with a few other IT companies which had shown interest to make investments in the State. On allegations of custodial deaths and torture in police lock-up, Mr. Achuthanandan said these incidents should not have happened. That was why the Government had taken action against a few policemen. "The attitude of policemen has to change. This will take some sometime. Necessary training is being arranged," the Chief Minister said. He also said the Government wanted to introduce a comprehensive strategy to ameliorate farmers' distress. In his perception, farmers' suicides were not merely a financial issue but involved social issues.
