MYSORE: They were not only enthusiastic but also talented. That was indent at the annual drawing and painting contest, Chittara, conducted by the Geetha Shishu Shikshana Sangha (GSSS) here on Saturday. Reckoned to be a record turnout, the number of students showing interest in the contest was encouraging. In all, 1,700 students from play homes to Class 10, participated in the contest. Armed with sketch pens, colours and paint brush, the children made a beeline to the venue quite early in the day. In all, 25 schools in the city were represented as also a few from outside Mysore. The organisers had divided the participants into five categories and the theme for higher primary school students was "sports while students from High School were asked to depict urban India." Students from play group to Class 4 were free to paint on any topic of their choice. If the paintings produced by the budding artists is any indication, the new generation is well-versed and has acquainted itself with the latest developments in the world of sports or the urban Indian scenario. The talent was immense and the talent pool vast. For the organisers, it is going to be a tough choice to decide the winners. Anjana Suresh, principal of GSSS said results would be intimated to the prize-winning schools on August 10.
