Gulbarga
Special Correspondent
GULBARGA: Former Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly N. Dharam Singh on Monday said the State Government appeared not to have learnt from its mistakes and was repeating the same mistakes to be pulled up repeatedly by the Supreme Court. The serious strictures passed by the Apex court on the Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor (BMIC) project should be an eye-opener for the Government to mend its ways. Addressing a press conference here, Mr. Dharam Singh said the strictures against the Government by the Supreme Court on the applications filed by the Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprises against the judicial inquiry commission appointed by the State Government was a serious matter and the Government should allow the project to go ahead according to directions of the Supreme Court. On the alleged corruption charges levelled against Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and Home Minister M.P. Prakash by the suspended Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLC Janardhan Reddy, Mr. Dharam Singh said that as a responsible Opposition party, the Congress could not turn a blind eye to such allegations and had demanded the resignation of both of them. He said the investigation of the issue should be handed over to the CBI. The Congress had not raked up the issue and it was the Bharatiya Janata Party MLC who levelled the charges on the mine issue. Referring to the statement of the Chief Minister during his visit to Gulbarga on the amendment of the Article 371 of the Constitution, Mr. Dharam Singh criticised his statement saying that there was nothing left for the State Government to do. Mr. Dharam Singh said people of the Hyderabad-Karnataka region did not expect such a stand from the Chief Minister and pointed out that it was the duty of the State Government to pressure the Centre to amend Article 371 to remove disparities in the field of education and employment in government services. Mr. Dharam Singh expressed concern over the lack of rainfall in parts of the Stateincluding Gulbarga and said the farmers who had taken to cultivating cash crops had suffered.
