TIRUVARUR: Kuruvai transplantation has been completed on 22,649 hectares in the district, said Collector Shambu Kallolikar on Monday. He told presspersons that the plan was to raise kuruvai on 35,859 hectares. He said that the Agriculture Department had distributed 430 tonnes of kuruvai seeds to the farmers. The Collector said that there was adequate stock of fertilisers like urea, di-ammonium phosphate and potash. The plan was to raise crop on 1.08 lakh hectares in samba season during August 15 to December. There was a stock of 1,150 tonnes of samba paddy seeds which include CR 1009, CO 43 varieties. The Collector said that there was scope for increasing the oil palm cultivation on more area. Already oil palm had been raised on 650 hectares. This year the plan was to raise oil palm on 318. 8 hectares. The Government was giving Rs. 7,000 per hectare as subsidy for raising the crop in the first year, fertiliser subsidy of Rs. 2,850 in the second year, Rs. 2,450 in the third year and Rs. 4,800 in the fourth year. The Cauvery Oil Palm company at Ariyalur was purchasing the palm fruits from the farmers. With respect to the cooperative loans, he said that so far loan waiver certificate had been issued to 86,607 beneficiaries to the tune of Rs. 168.02 crore. Fresh crop loans had been issued to 3,207 farmers to the tune of Rs. 6.61 crore.
