"BEML has the capacity"
N. Gopalakrishna, Assistant General Manager (Legal) of Bharat Earth Movers Limited, Bangalore, writes:
This refers to the report "Crowded days ahead for Delhi Metro" (The Hindu, June 18). The report says, among other things, that "Bharat Earth Movers Limited is not fully competent to manufacture coaches for the Delhi Metro on its own".
We confirm that BEML is having a capacity to manufacture 15 coaches per month presently and therefore to say that it is not fully competent to manufacture Delhi Metro coaches on its own is totally erroneous.
The process of indigenisation has been highly satisfactory. Therefore, it is false to contend contra.
BEML continues to be a high-tech company, is having capabilities for manufacturing of Metro coaches and is in tie-up with ROTEM [of Korea] for production which is planned to the requirements of the end user.
