`Wake-up call' by BJP
Special Correspondent
Indrasena Reddy
HYDERABAD:
State BJP leaders on Monday organised a novel protest, `ghantanadham' (sounding of bells) to awaken the Centre from `deep slumber' and control prices of essential commodities.
Led by State unit president N. Indrasena Reddy, the party launched a protest near GPO, Abids, as part of the party's nation-wide call.
Mr. Reddy, B. Dattatreya, former Union Minister, K. Laxman, general secretary, Vijayalakshmi, B. Bal Reddy and G. Ramakrishna Reddy, vice-presidents, were among those who participated .
Later at a meeting, Mr. Indrasena Reddy charged the Congress with not honouring its promise of containing price rise. He said the Centre not only failed to deliver on the price front but had also cut quota of items supplied through the public distribution system. Similar protests were organised elsewhere in the State too.
