Mangapeta grieves for Madhav

Staff Reporter

Slain naxal's family had not set eyes on him since he left home to join Maoists some 25 years ago

KARIMNAGAR: A pall of gloom has descended on this tiny village of Mangapeta in Kalwa Srirampur mandal following the death of Maoist State committee secretary Burra Chinnanna alias Madhav in an encounter in the Nallamalla forest on Sunday.

Madhav, who had left the village some 25 years ago attracted by the Maoist ideology, did not return to his village even after the death of his parents. Now, villagers are eagerly waiting to see, at least, the body of the slain leader.

Madhav's son Karthik arrived in the village on Sunday night. He had studied up to 10th class in Peddapalli and is studying Intermediate in Khagaznagar of Adilabad district.

"I have not seen my father and mother since my childhood. They left me at my grandparents' house in Khagaznagar when I was six months old. I did not expect to see my father dead," said Karthik.

Karthik's mother Bharathakka alias Vasantha is also an underground cadre. The police and family do not have her particulars.

Meanwhile, the police are maintaining a close surveillance to check the movement of naxalites into the village.

The police sounded high alert in the district in view of possible retaliation from naxalites. They deployed additional forces in sensitive police stations in Manthani and Sircilla divisions and cordoned off interior police stations.

Bus services cut

The police alerted naxalite targets to leave villages and stay in towns and district headquarters. Politicians were told not to venture into interior villages without prior notice. The RTC curtailed its services into interior villages from Sunday night itself.
