Lucknow: At least six people were killed in incidents of house and wall collapse in different parts of Uttar Prdesh as heavy rains accompanied by strong winds lashed several areas in the State since Sunday evening taking the toll in rain related deaths to 135. Three persons were killed in Balrampur, two in Deoria and one in the State capital in separate incidents of house collapse, reports reaching here said. According to the met office here the major rivers were maintaining a rising trend though they were still flowing below the danger mark. The Ganga was rising all along its course from Hardwar to Ballia, while Ramganga and Yamuna were also rising at several places. The Gomti, Sai and Ghagra were also reported to be rising in several areas. The State capital was lashed by heavy rains on Sunday night as a result of which the mercury dipped sharply, met office sources said. Foreigner missing Dehradun: Avalanches have struck Gomukh in Uttarkashi district killing one kanwaria and eight others, including a foreigner, went missing in separate incidents during the past 24 hours. The deceased is identified as Pravin Kumar (27), belonging to Yamunanagar of Harayana, SDM Bhatwari D. N. Ghildiyal said on Monday. A foreign national and seven kanwarias were feared to have been trapped in avalanches in the Gomukh area, kanwariass informed the district administration. The identity of the foreigner is not ascertained. A police team along with a Tehsildar has been sent to Gomukh to verify the account given by the kanwarias. ``We have got information from some persons that they saw avalanches hitting some kanwarias in Gomukh. A foreign national was also there when the incident took place,'' he said. Arrangements are being made to send back his body to Yamunagar while the injured have been taken to local hospital. In Punjab, Patiala, Amritsar and Nangal Dam area received light showers. Meanwhile, Sonepat district administration has alerted the people of 50 villages in the district about the rise in water level following heavy rains in the catchment area of Yamuna river.
