Poll: Sonia most preferred as PM

New Delhi: Congress president Sonia Gandhi has been voted the most preferred choice for prime ministership in an opinion poll, and Manmohan Singh is shown to have gained popularity by about 16 per cent since 2004.

Ms. Gandhi is favoured by 29 per cent, Atal Bihari Vajpayee 21 per cent, Dr. Singh 16 per cent and L.K. Advani by 2 per cent.

When he assumed office in 2004, Dr. Singh was favoured by 0.4 per cent. The poll, conducted by the CSDS for CNN-IBN-Indian Express, says that 52 per cent people want Dr. Singh replaced by Ms. Gandhi and 30 per cent against it.
