Probe land grab cases, says CPI(M)

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Communist Party of India (Marxist) member K. Balabarathi demanded a separate enquiry into major land grab cases in the State. She cited an instance in Siruthavur and another in Ramanathapuram. Stringent punishment should be given to encroachers, she said in the Assembly here on Monday. She wanted the setting up of a State Women's Commission.

CPI member T. Ramasamy enquired if the MLA's Constituency Development Fund, the scheme to develop specific areas in every MLAs constituency, was still functional. Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi said if the scheme was scrapped, it would have found a mention in the budget speech.
