MANGALORE: Regional Transport Authority (RTA), Dakshina Kannada has revised the bus fares in all three sectors city, mofussil and express services, in the district. The new fares will come into force from August 1, 2006. According to the secretary of the RTA and Regional Transport Officer H.N. Ramesh the new fares will be increased by 5 to 10 per cent. Fare for the first stage for express and mofussil services has not been revised and will continue to be at Rs. 4. As for the city services the fares will be increased from the first stage, the press release added. Canara Bus Owners Association (CBOA) and Dakshina Kannada Bus Owners Association (DKBOA) had demanded an increase at a meeting organised by the Regional Transport Authprity on July 19, 2006, following the increase in diesel prices.
Both the organisations have welcomed the decision of the RTA. President of the DKBOA Bhaskar Salian said the fare hike had given relief to private bus operators. He has pledged the support of his members to improve the quality of services and also tackle misbehaviour and rash driving.
