CHENNAI: The SSN Educational Trust will join hands with the Uttar Pradesh Government to set up a university near Greater Noida in Uttar Pradesh soon. The multi-crore project would be ready in a couple of years, Shiv Nadar, founder of the SSN group, said on Monday. Though an enabling law was due, the Uttar Pradesh government had agreed in principle to the proposal, Mr.Nadar told newspersons. Although the group had sought only 250 acres of land, the authorities sanctioned 1,000 acres. The proposed university would house schools of management and technology. "Our management courses will focus on public administration and policy making," he said. He was speaking at the inauguration of a new facility on the campus for SSN School of Advanced Software Engineering, run in collaboration with Carnegie Mellon University (CMU). Raj Reddy, professor of computer science and robotics at the CMU,said it was important to let people living in rural areas know how useful personal computers were. "If there is high quality broadband facility in villages, it will make access to information on education and health easier for rural folks," he said.He said CMU was not considering tie-ups with other institutions in India in the near future. "However, if reputable institutions approach us, we might consider such options," Professor Reddy said.
