Health camp

CHENNAI: Kalaimagal Vidhya Mandir Mat. HSS along with the Lions Club of Pammal conducted a medical camp on Friday.

A blood donation camp was conducted by the Blood Bank of Indian Red Cross Society, Tamil Nadu Branch, on Sunday at the Nehru Youth Welfare Association. The camp was organised by N. Dhanasekar, President, Nehru Youth Welfare Association.

Contests for

school children

The International Society of Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) is conducting several competitions for school children in connection with Sri Krishna Janmashtami celebrations on August 16. Along with colouring, drawing, fancy dress, elocution, classical music, essay writing and Puranic quiz, this year Nama Kirtan will also be introduced. Students have to chant the Hare Krishna mantra set to any tune repetitively in a group. The Rasbihari fancy dress contest will be at the Sri Krishnaswamy Kalyana Mandapam, 62, South Boag Road, T. Yoga course

The Varahas Gurucool will conduct a free 10-day Yoga and Meditation course commencing on Thursday on all week-days between 7 and 8 p.m. at its Chennai Centre, Varahas Gurucool, Koviloor Madalayam, 52, Kuppaiah St., West Mambalam. Found murdered

In a broad daylight, an armed gang assaulted a 40-year-old man who died on the spot in Kilpauk police station limits here on Monday.

Police said, the victim identified as Murali alias "Vellai" Murali, a painter, of Kilpauk had indulged in some criminal offences. However, after marrying one Thingala (30), he decided to start a fresh life. He had two girl children. This morning, an unidentified person came to Murali's house and wanted him to accompany for raising donation for a local temple festival in Kilpauk. Both went out together. As they approached a restaurant near Kilpauk garden, an armed gang suddenly pounced on Murali and attacked him with deadly weapons. He collapsed on the spot.

Noticing that the victim had died, the gang escaped from the scene. On information, Joint Commissioner of Police Sandeep Rai Rathore and others inspected the scene of crime. The body was sent for postmortem to Kilpauk Medical College.
