ON THE WARPATH: Women breaking the security cordon at the entrance of the Collectorate on Monday.
VISAKHAPATNAM: A good number of women and men, under the aegis of the Communist Party of India(Marxist), gathered at the Collectorate on Monday and staged a dharna in protest against the proposal of the State Government to reduce the quota of essential commodities being supplied through ration shops. Women raised slogans denouncing the move to decrease the quota of kerosene being supplied to the poor, sought re-issue of kerosene coupons which were withdrawn from cardholders who had cooking gas connections, and supply of kerosene to pink cardholders also.
Tense moments
The police closed the gates to the Collectorate to prevent the entry of the agitators but they relented and allowed them into the premises after some time. The women squatted on the road on the premises and raised slogans. The dharna was led by CPI(M) city secretary K. Lokanadham.
