Visa cheating: four held

Thiruvananathapuram: The rural police have arrested four persons on the charge of cheating as many as 15 people of Rs.3.5 lakhs each by selling them forged Australian job visas. Circle Inspector, Kazhakuttom, Muhammad Iqbal, identified the accused as Kunjkrishnan (53) of Thalassery, John Mathew (50) of Kollam and John Mathew (50) and Babu (52) of Kazhakuttom. They were produced before the court and remanded to 14 days in judicial custody. — Staff Reporter

Protest staged

Thiruvananthapuram: BJP workers in the city rang bells for 30 minutes, as part of a nation-wide agitation against the UPA Government for the failure to check price rise and terrorist activities. Inaugurating the protest at a function held at Thampanoor, party leader K.Raman Pillai called for the restoration of the POTA.

Plea for compensation

Thiruvananthapuram: A one-day leadership camp organised by the district committee of the All India Kisan Sabha here on Monday urged the Government to reconstitute the Krishi Bhavan advisory committees and compensate the farmers who suffered loss in the monsoon. The Agriculture Minister delivered the keynote address. — Special Correspondent
