KOCHI: Income Tax employees and officers will launch a country-wide agitation from July 25 in protest against the indifference on the part of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) towards a charter of demands submitted by them. Addressing a press conference here on Monday, the Joint Council of Action of the Income Tax Employees Federation, Kerala Circle and Income Tax Gazetted Officers' Association, Kerala unit, said that they were launching the agitation as the CBDT and the Government had not kept its promises. The action council leaders promised that they would extend maximum possible service to those who are submitting IT returns during this time. The officers and employees will boycott the offices from 11 a.m. on July 31. The leaders requested the public to file their returns before the last date. The IT staff will not work during the holidays on Saturday and Sunday also. On other working days, the counters will function from 9 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. They pointed out that more than 9,000 vacancies were lying vacant in the country. No appointment has been made after 1997. Action council leaders R.Rajagopalan and N.U.Appukuttan took part in the press meet.
