Girl hacked to death

BANGALORE: A man reportedly hacked a 14-year-old girl to death after she refused to marry him, in the Hoskote police station limits in Bangalore Rural district on Monday.

The police gave the girl's name as Anjali, a resident of Chennigarayanapura village in Hoskote taluk. She was an SSLC student of SVN School in Malur in Kolar district.

The police said that around 8.30 a.m. Anjali and her three friends were walking to their school situated two kilometres from Chennigarayanapura.

Chandrashekar (25), also from the same village, accosted Anjali near an eucalyptus grove between Chennigarayanapura and Kattigenahalli and reportedly asked her to marry him.

When Anjali refused, he hit her on the neck with a sword, even as her three friends watched in horror. Anjali died on the spot, the police said.

For the past few months, Chandrashekar, a school dropout, had been allegedly pestering Anjali to marry him. The Hoskote police have registered a case.

Chains snatched

Motorcycle-borne men snatched a gold chain a woman in Shivajinagar police station limits on Sunday.

The police said that around 8.30 p.m. two men, riding a motorcycle, snatched a gold chain worth Rs. 16,000 from Geeta while was she was walking on the Station Road.

She had alighted a train at the Cantonment Railway Station and was walking towards her hostel in Fraser Town, the police said. The Shivajinagar police have registered a case.
