Jamia opens to complete admission process

Staff Reporter

No definite date has been set for classes to resume

NEW DELHI: As part of its efforts to restore normality on the troubled campus, Jamia Millia Islamia opened on Monday to revise its schedule for completion of the admission process.

While no definite date has been set for classes to resume, all the teaching staff reported for work and full-scale admissions will begin from Tuesday.

"The revised schedule for admissions has been prepared and was sent to the computer centre by 4 p.m. so that it could be put on the website,'' said Registrar S.M. Afzal.

The revised admission schedule available on the website gives candidates the complete picture of the revised dates, collection of pay-in slips and all details about the interviews.

A meeting of deans was held in the afternoon to assess the situation. A condolence meeting was also held for noted Urdu writers Ahmad Nadeem Qasimi and Khurshidul Islam.

Retired High Court judge S.K Aggarwal, who had been appointed by Vice-Chancellor Mushirul Hasan to probe the incidents that took place this past Wednesday has notified his schedule for conducting the inquiry.

"He will accept affidavits from those who are interested in handing them over till August 4. His first hearing will take place from the next day,'' said Mr. Afzal.

Demanding action against the Vice-Chancellor and the Proctor, two members of the Jamia Students' Unity Forum, Satyaprakash Mishra and Ashraf Kamal, are continuing their hunger strike.
