DU student among two killed in accident

NEW DELHI: A young man and a Delhi University postgraduate girl student were killed when a Delhi Transport Corporation bus hit their motorcycle at ITO on Monday. The bus driver has been arrested.

According to the police, the accident took place around 8-15 a.m. when the bus coming from Shakarpur hit the motorcycle near a bus shelter on Vikas Marg. Aditya Chauhan and Shipra Singh, who were on the motorcycle, sustained serious head injuries. While passers-by called the police, the injured were rushed to JP Hospital where Aditya was declared dead on arrival.

Shipra, a resident of Ganesh Nagar in East Delhi, succumbed to her injuries later. Her relatives said she was on her way to the University to attend classes when the accident took place.

Enquiries revealed that Aditya worked with a company in neighbouring Ghaziabad.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Delhi) Neeraj Thakur said a case of rash and negligent driving causing death had been registered at the Indraprastha police station and the bus driver, Vijay, had been arrested.

Held for allegedly possessing drugs

NEW DELHI: A young man was arrested at Malviya Nagar in South Delhi over the weekend for allegedly being in possession of drugs. The police claim to have recovered 95 gm of smack, Rs. 22,000 in cash and four mobile phones from him.

According to the police, the accused was moving on a motorcycle bearing a Gujarat registration number when he was intercepted near Press Enclave in Malviya Nagar for a routine check. He was arrested after smack was allegedly recovered from his possession. During interrogation, he identified himself as Afroz.

Alleged suicide by AIIMS employee

NEW DELHI: A 28-year-old Class IV employee of the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences here allegedly hanged himself to death at his Preet Vihar residence in East Delhi on Sunday night.

The tragedy came to light on Monday morning. The police have initiated inquest proceedings.
