GANDHINAGAR: The Gujarat Chief Minister, Narendra Modi, will be in Chennai on July 28 as part of promoting the "Vibrant Gujarat'' celebrations to attract industrial investments.

A CMO spokesman, however, said the main purpose of his Chennai visit was to attend the two-day conference convened by the agricultural scientist, M. S. Swaminathan, on "National Alliance for 2007" for transforming every village into a knowledge centre.

Mr. Modi, who has been specially invited to attend the conference, will present his views before the information technologists about the measures that could be taken for the development of agro-based industries in Gujarat villages through the use of information technology. Besides meetings with Gujarati Samaj in Chennai, he will meet the leaders of the Southern India Chamber of Commerce to promote Gujarat as an investment destination. He will invite industrialists in south India to participate in the annual "vibrant Gujarat" celebrations due to be held in January next year, to coincide with "Utran," the festival of flying kites in Gujarat.
