KOCHI: The Kerala High Court on Tuesday clarified that its interim order of July 18 on admission and fee in unaided professional colleges in the State was applicable to all courses and colleges including medical colleges. Justice S. Siri Jagan made it clear that he passed the interim order after considering all writ petitions challenging the constitutional validity of the Kerala Professional Colleges (Prohibition of Capitation Fees, Regulation of Admissions, Fixation of Non-Exploitative Fees and Other Measures to Ensure Equity and Excellence in Professional Education) Act, 2006 and that it was a general order. The court said that no separate order was passed when writ petitions filed by the Malankara Medical Mission and the Pushpagiri medical college came up before it since a general interim direction had already been issued. Staff Reporter writes from Kollam: Education Minister M. A. Baby said in Kollam that the State Government would go in appeal against Tuesday's Kerala High Court order extending the July 18 interim order to medical colleges as well. Mr. Baby made the announcement while inaugurating a seminar on `Kerala Professional Colleges Act and social justice' organised by the N.S. Study and Research Centre here on Tuesday. Mr. Baby said the Left Democratic Front (LDF) Government would consider the introduction of an education cess in the State. Mr. Baby asserted that there was no agenda to nationalise education. He alleged that Church leaders were trying to create fear among the faithful that the Government was going to take over their educational institutions. They have not fully understood the provisions of the Act, which goes by the essence of the Supreme Court verdict in the Inamdar case and the 93rd Amendment to the Constitution.
