Congress workers, leaders stage dharna

  • Party for CBI probes into bribery charge, BMIC project
  • Government charged with failing to control chikungunya

Bangalore: The Congress staged a dharna front of the Mahatma Gandhi statue here on Tuesday demanding the resignation of Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and the coalition government.

The protesters demanded inquiries by the Central Bureau of Investigation into the bribery allegation against Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and two Cabinet Ministers and the Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor project and charged the Government with failing to control the spread of chikungunya.

Addressing the party workers, Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly N. Dharam Singh said the charge levelled by G. Janardhan Reddy, BJP MLC, against the Chief Minister and his Cabinet colleagues should be referred to the CBI.

Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president M. Mallikarjun Kharge said the allegation was made by a member of the BJP, which was part of the ruling coalition. Attempts were being made to cover up the issue, he said.

N.L. Narendra Babu, MLA, said the Congress would stage protests all over Bangalore in the coming days.

    R. Ramalinga Reddy, president of the Bangalore Urban District Congress Committee, said the party would continue its protest until the inquiry is handed over to the CBI. Misuse of power by the Government must be stopped, he said.
