Information to be sought from public and private sector establishments

BANGALORE:
The Kannada Development Authority (KDA) will request public sector and private sector establishments in the State to provide details about how many Kannadigas have been provided jobs by them in the past five years.
KDA chairman Siddalingaiah held a meeting with representatives of over 30 Kannada organisations here on Monday.
He later told presspersons that the establishments would also be asked to give information on the number of non-Kannadigas appointed by them during the period, which, in the case of public sector units, was in violation of the recommendations made by the Sarojini Mahishi Committee.
The meeting discussed various aspects of how to make the implementation of Kannada in the administration more effective. It was of the opinion that implementation of Kannada in the administration would remain a dream until the KDA was vested with executive powers.
Dr. Siddalingaiah said he would write to the officials concerned to promote Kannada and reject non-Kannada applications.
The Government had agreed to appoint 140 Kannada teachers in Urdu schools and open some more Kannada schools in the border taluks of Bidar, Belgaum and Gulbarga districts, he added.
