Quit or challenge Jaswant, Congress tells Modi
Special Correspondent
GANDHINAGAR:
The Congress has asked Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi either to resign or "challenge" the former Union Minister Jaswant Singh for his critical comments on his Government's handling of the 2002 communal riots.
Mr. Singh had in his book, A call to honour, described the Gujarat riots as a "blot" on the Bharatiya Janata Party's history.
Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Arjun Modhvadia said Mr. Modi always attacked his critics as "five star activists" or "anti-Gujarat," but he had no answer to his critics in the party.
He pointed out that the former Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee, the National Human Rights Commission, the Supreme Court, then Governor Sunder Singh Bhandari and now Mr. Jaswant Singh had expressed strong resentment over the handling of the Gujarat riots by the Modi administration.
