Vajpayee "anguished"

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The former Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, chairing a meeting of the Bharatiya Janata Party's parliamentary wing here on Tuesday, expressed "anguish" that the Congress and its allies were spreading "misinformation" that the BJP did not honour an understanding with the ruling party leaders and forced disruption of the Lok Sabha on Monday.

BJP leader V.K. Malhotra objected to the discussions in the Speaker's chamber being made public. "We have told the Speaker that report of whatever happens in your room is spread outside in a mischievous manner," he told presspersons. Mr. Malhotra said if this were to continue the BJP would find it difficult to talk informally to the Government and its allies.

There were complaints from the BJP-ruled States that they were not being given their fair share of revenue. "This is the first time that this kind of discrimination is taking place," he said.

The other point he made was that allotment of plots to non-Congress organisations was not being honoured.
