Rupee rebounds against $

MUMBAI: The rupee on Tuesday rebounded sharply against the U.S. currency on fresh exporter dollar sales and unwinding of long dollar positions by banks amid a slightly retreating dollar overseas, largely unmoved by the RBI's decision to raise short-term interest rates.

In choppy trading at the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee closed at 46.82/83 a dollar, an 8-1/2 paise recovery from Monday's close of 46.9050/9150 following a brief uptick to 46.80/82. It opened on a positive note at 46.89/91.
