TIRUCHI: For Dieng Salio and his team of 10 railway officials from Senegal, their month-long stay at Tiruchi enabled them to enrich their knowledge on diesel engine maintenance and its overhaul as well as that of the coaches.

The 11 technical men from the African nation were given a thorough hands-on training and necessary inputs at the Diesel Traction Training Centre and Goldenrock Railway Workshop, which had successfully imparted similar training programmes to railway officials from several overseas nations.

Language wasn't a barrier for the trainers here as a translator was engaged to support them in the training activities.

While seven of the Senegal technical personnel were trained in diesel loco maintenance, four were trained in maintenance and overhaul of coaches. This is the sixth batch of an overseas technical team to undergo training at theWorkshop.

Presenting the certificates to the Senegal team members at a function, the Divisional Railway Manager, Tiruchi, R.C. Jat said the cost of acquiring technology from advanced countries was high and it had become a deterrent for developing countries to acquire them.

The Chief Workshop Manager, Goldenrock Workshop, S. Rangarajan, said this was the sixth batch of overseas railway officials to undergo training in diesel engine locomotives maintenance.
