United Nations: India's nominee for the post of U.N. Secretary-General Shashi Tharoor and South Korean Foreign Minister Ban Ki Moon have emerged key contenders among the four declared candidates for the top post in the first informal poll held by the 15-member Security Council. While Mr. Tharoor got second highest endorsements after Mr. Moon in the straw poll held on Monday night, Thai Deputy Prime Minister Surakiart Sathirathai and Sri Lankan Jayantha Dhanapala got third and fourth places, diplomats said. The straw poll marked the beginning of the selection process which could last till October. New candidates can be introduced at any stage till the final selection is made.
