Two children die of dengue, viral fever

PALAKKAD: Two children died of Dengue Shock Syndrome and Viral Mayo Cardidis in Palakkad town on Monday.

Dhanya, 12, daughter of Unnikrishnan of Kallikkad in Pallippuram, died of Dengue Shock Syndrome at a private hospital in Thrissur. She was admitted to the district hospital here on Saturday but shifted to the Thrissur hospital in a serious condition the next day.

This is the first confirmed case of dengue in the district in recent times.

At Mepparambu in the town, Rehna, 5, daughter of Ashraf and Shahina, died at a private hospital here on Monday.

District Medical Officer A.K. Radhakrishnan said Rehna died of Viral Mayo Cardidis owing to mosquito bite.

Dr. Radhakrishnan said medical camps were being conducted and steps such as fogging and spraying were being taken up. He said at a medical camp at Mepparambu on Tuesday, 20 of the 34 persons examined were found to have viral fever. Examination of those with serious cases of fever will be held.
